NHK reported at noon that Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen met with an unofficial delegation from the U.S. government in Taipei this morning and expressed her appreciation for the Biden administration’s repeated emphasis on the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait amid the PLA’s increasing activities near Taiwan. The delegation included former Senator Chris Dodd and former Deputy Secretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg. The Taiwan leader reportedly welcomed their visit by saying: “This is the first visit by a delegation since the launch of the Biden administration and shows the deepening relationship between Taiwan and the United States.” She went on to say: “I appreciate that the Biden administration is repeatedly stressing the importance of peace and the stability in the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan will defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region together with the United States and other like-minded nations.” In response, former Senator Dodd reportedly expressed support for Taiwan’s wider participation in the international community.
