MOFA’s Akiba becomes longest-serving vice minister for foreign affairs

On April 16, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Akiba became the longest-serving vice minister for foreign affairs in the postwar period. He assumed the post in January 2018 and has been in office for 1,184 days. He replaces Nobuhiko Ushiba, who served under the Eisaku Sato administration, as the longest in the position.
