IOC Chairman Bach says Tokyo’s state of emergency won’t affect Olympics

All networks reported at noon that International Olympic Committee Chairman Bach commented at a press conference on Wednesday on the possibility of Tokyo being placed under a state of emergency again by saying that this will not affect the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics scheduled for the summer. Bach reportedly said that the decision is a proactive response appropriate for the Golden Week holiday period and “is not related to the Olympic Games.”

Meanwhile, NHK reported that according to a source, arrangements are underway for Chairman Bach to visit Japan on the occasion of the Olympic torch relay in Hiroshima in May. The network added, however, that Bach said the visit is still in the planning stage and did not provide details at the press conference.
