Sunday’s Yomiuri wrote that the governments of the United States and Japan held a bilateral Extended Deterrence Dialogue via videoconference on Friday. The two governments have regularly held such meetings since 2010, but this was the first one held under the Biden and Suga administrations. Working-level officials from both nations discussed such issues as North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, bilateral cooperation on ballistic missile defense, and the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the United States and Russia. Nikkei and Sankei ran similar reports.
