Japanese Olympic athletes to be fully vaccinated by end of June

Nikkei claimed that arrangements are underway between the GOJ and the IOC, the JOC, and other relevant authorities for Japanese athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of June with the vaccine that the Pfizer CEO has promised to provide for Olympic athletes around the world. Doctors connected to various sports associations will be tapped to administer the vaccines so as not to disrupt the ongoing vaccination of the elderly.

Meanwhile, Yomiuri wrote that as many as 70,000 antigen and PCR tests will be conducted per day for Olympic athletes and other officials throughout the duration of the three-week event. The Tokyo Olympics organizing committee is reportedly set to ask the IOC to reduce the number of foreign participants other than athletes as much as possible to reduce the burden on the local healthcare system.
