More than 90% of COVID-19 cases in Japan now involve UK variant

Nikkei, Mainichi, and Sankei wrote that the National Institute of Infectious Diseases reported to a Health Ministry advisory board on Wednesday its finding that more than 90% of the COVID-19 cases in Japan now involve N501Y, the highly contagious UK variant. The institute will monitor the infection situation in Japan by raising the alert level for the UK variant from “variant of interest” to “variant of concern.”
