Suga stresses holding safe and secure Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics possible

NHK reported that Prime Minister Suga said at an Upper House plenary session today that holding the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in a safe and secure way is possible by thoroughly implementing strict precautionary measures, such as not allowing athletes or staff to come into contact with the general public. Suga reportedly said: “Our first priority is to contain the spread of the virus and protect the lives and health of the public. When it comes to holding the Games, we will ensure that precautionary measures are taken so that athletes and staff can participate with peace of mind.” The premier also reportedly stressed that the Pfizer vaccine will be administered to Olympic athletes free of charge and that the GOJ is considering taking strict COVID-19 measures such as not allowing athletes or staff to come into contact with the general public.
