All national dailies wrote that a Health Ministry panel approved two COVID-19 vaccines developed by Moderna and AstraZeneca on Thursday and Health Minister Tamura is expected to give the formal green light for the use of these vaccines in Japan today. The Moderna vaccine is expected to be used at large-scale vaccination centers in Tokyo and Osaka as well as similar facilities being set up by some prefectures, but the GOJ has not yet determined how to use the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The papers wrote that with the approval of Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines in addition to the Pfizer one that is already in use, Japan will be able to secure a total of 364 million doses of vaccine, enough to give two shots each to the 110 million people eligible for vaccination in Japan, including the elderly, paving the way for the GOJ to achieve its goal of providing 1 million shots per day.
