Broadcasters led with reports on the start of operations at large-scale COVID-19 vaccination centers in Osaka and Tokyo today (NHK, TBS, Fuji TV) and the expansion of the state of emergency to include ten prefectures on Sunday (NTV, TV Asahi).

Top stories in national papers included the mounting likelihood that the current state of emergency for Tokyo and eight other prefectures will be extended by about three weeks through June 20, prefectural governments’ plans to launch large-scale vaccination centers, a possible plan to export Japan’s AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine supplies to developing nations through the COVAX program, and Japanese corporations’ growing moves to relocate their headquarters out of central Tokyo to rural areas.
