Vaccination holds key to “safe, secure” Olympic Games

Asahi said on Saturday that the IOC and the GOJ are apparently hoping that speeding up the COVID-19 vaccine rollout will help turn around the skepticism among the Japanese public about holding the Olympics, noting that the officials are rushing to vaccinate Olympic athletes and stakeholders in addition to the Japanese public as soon as possible. While projecting that more than 80% of the participating athletes will probably be vaccinated by the time they arrive in Tokyo, the IOC is reportedly considering securing additional doses of vaccines for the Japanese support staff, including volunteers, many of whom would otherwise probably not be immunized before the Games open in late July.
