Polling methodology: The survey was jointly conducted on May 22–23, 2021, of Tokyo voters age 18 or over by Tokyo Shimbun, Tokyo Metropolitan Television Broadcasting Corp. (Tokyo MX) and JX Press Corp. by telephone on a computer-aided random digit dialing (RDD) basis. Respondents were asked to press numbers on their telephone to indicate their response to questions posed by an automated voice system. The survey received 1,000 responses (men, 470; women, 530). Teens and those in their 20s and 30s made up a total of only 5.1% of respondents. There were roughly equal numbers of respondents in the 40s through 70s age groups, with each age group (40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s) making up around 20% of respondents.
