Tokyo, May 27 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese government will promote flows of people away from urban areas, according to a draft of its regional revitalization plans for 2021 reviewed by Jiji Press on Thursday.
The draft plans call for promoting the relocation of people working for companies in Tokyo and families with small children to regional areas.
The plans also include the promotion of digital transformation to resolve challenges in regional revitalization and the nurturing of personnel to reduce carbon emissions.
The government aims to accelerate flows of people to regional areas that have been emerging amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In fiscal 2020, which ended in March, Tokyo saw its net population inflow drop by some 90 pct from the previous year.
