Asahi and Mainichi reported on Saturday that Administrative Reform Minister Kono told the press on Friday that Japan is expected to secure 70 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine from July to the end of September. The Japanese government signed a deal with Pfizer in January to receive 144 million doses by the end of this year and an additional contract in May to receive 500,000 more doses by September. Asahi wrote that a total of about 100 million doses of Pfizer vaccine are expected to be distributed to local municipalities by the end of June, adding that Japan is likely to secure about 87% of the vaccine under contract by September. Kono reportedly added that Japan is expected to receive the remaining 24 million doses in the October-December quarter.
