All national dailies wrote that Chairman Omi of the GOJ coronavirus taskforce subcommittee said at a Lower House Health and Labor Committee meeting on Wednesday that it is “not normal” to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer under the current coronavirus situation. Omi stressed that if the Games are held as scheduled, it is the organizers’ responsibility to scale them down as much as possible and strengthen the management system to ensure the safety of the participants. He added that ordinary citizens will not be willing to cooperate with government efforts to curb the COVID-19 infections unless the organizers clearly explain why the Games should be held and how they plan to minimize the risk of infection.
