Two U.S. military Ospreys make emergency landings at Yamagata Airport

Fuji TV reported this morning that a U.S. military Osprey belonging to Yokota AB made an emergency landing at Yamagata Airport at about 5:10 p.m. on Monday and another one did likewise about 10 minutes later. The network said that while one of the aircraft left the airport at around 7:45 p.m., the other one is still there. According to the network, the airport was not notified of the landing in advance. There were no reports of injuries or interruption of regular flights. The network said three officials of the Tohoku Defense Bureau visited the airport to obtain information on the incident.

 

TV Asahi reported at noon that the U.S. military explained that the two Ospreys made the landing as a precautionary measure. The network said the U.S. military will send officials from Yokota AB to perform repairs. Meanwhile, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato reportedly told the press this morning that the GOJ has asked the U.S. military to investigate the cause of the incident and provide information.
