On June 11, former Liberal Democratic Party Policy Research Council Chair Kishida Fumio, who also heads a faction, launched a “parliamentary league to create a new capitalism.” Former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Aso Taro and LDP tax commission chief Amari Akira, who took on key roles in the Abe government, participated in the inaugural meeting. Kishida hopes to broaden his presence by ramping up ties with the so-called “3A” politicians to get himself in a strong position for the LDP presidential race, which will be held this autumn.

The parliamentary league is joined by people from all seven factions of the LDP. Including Abe, Aso, and Amari, a total of 145 LDP members from both chambers attended the launch. (Abridged)
