U.S., Japan, ROK to discuss North Korea

Yomiuri wrote that senior diplomats from the U.S., Japan, and South Korea will assemble in Seoul on June 21 to exchange views on the situation in North Korea. This will be the first in-person trilateral session of its kind since the launch of the Biden administration in January. During the meeting, Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim, MOFA Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Funakoshi, and the ROK’s top nuclear envoy Noh are expected to discuss how to resume dialogue with the DPRK. Funakoshi is also reportedly expected to hold talks with a separate South Korean diplomat on resolving bilateral history disputes.
