Secretary Blinken, FM Motegi discuss situation in East Asia

Wednesday evening’s Nikkei wrote that Secretary of State Blinken and Foreign Minister Motegi held bilateral talks for about 20 minutes on Tuesday on the sidelines of a G20 foreign ministerial meeting in Matera, Italy. The paper wrote that the two officials discussed the situation in East Asia and their nations’ responses to China and the DPRK. They also discussed the roles of the United States and Japan in the G20 and other international frameworks. Thursday’s Mainichi ran a similar report.

Nikkei also wrote that Motegi held separate talks with British Foreign Secretary Raab, during which he welcomed the planned visit to Japan by the HMS Queen Elizabeth that is currently en route to the Indo-Pacific. Motegi and Raab also discussed Japan’s defense cooperation with the UK and NATO as well as preparations for Britain’s participation in the TPP.
