Nikkei wrote that almost 80% of the elderly in Japan will likely be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of this month as more than 60% of them had received their first shots of the vaccine as of June 29. The paper wrote that the government expects that although there are signs of a resurgence of the virus among young people in Tokyo and other urban areas, progress in vaccination of the elderly will help reduce the number of COVID-19 patients with serious symptoms.
