Gov’t lodges protest with China over intrusion into Japanese territorial waters

With regard to four China Coast Guard vessels that intruded into Japanese territorial waters near the Senkaku Islands (Ishigaki, Okinawa Prefecture) on July 14, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato Katsunobu remarked at a press conference on the same day that the Japanese government has lodged a protest with the Chinese government through a diplomatic channel in Beijing. The China Coast Guard entered Japan’s territorial waters 30 times in total this year. “We will continue to respond [to China’s intrusions] in a calm and firm manner,” Kato said.
