On July 14, National Public Safety Commission Chairperson Tanahashi Yasufumi held an online meeting with Vietnamese Minister for Public Security To Lam to call for cooperation to eradicate “pirate websites” which provide Japanese manga and animation works without permission. The meeting was held because many pirate websites are believed to be operated in Vietnam. According to the National Police Agency, Minister To Lam said, “We want to deal with the issue by working together.” The two countries will try to eradicate pirate websites by sharing information on them. During the online meeting that lasted for about an hour, the two officials also confirmed that they will strive to eliminate malicious brokers who collect unreasonable fees from Vietnamese coming to Japan as technical intern trainees.
