4 China Coast Guard ships enter Japanese waters off Senkakus

Naha, Okinawa Pref., July 14 (Jiji Press)–Four Chinese coast guard ships sailed in Japanese waters off the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture for about two hours on Wednesday.

It was the 24th intrusion into Japanese waters around the island chain by Chinese government ships this year. The East China Sea islands are claimed by China, which calls them Diaoyu.

The four Haijing ships entered Japanese waters south of Taishojima, one of the islands, and nearby between about 10:20 a.m. (1:20 a.m. GMT) and 10:25 a.m., according to the Japan Coast Guard’s 11th regional headquarters in Naha, the capital of the southernmost prefecture.

The Chinese ships left the waters east-northeast of the island between around 11:55 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.
