Yomiuri wrote from Washington that it has learned from multiple sources that the Biden administration is making arrangements to hold an in-person Quad summit in Washington as early as September when the leaders of Japan, Australia, and India are expected to visit New York for the UN General Assembly. The paper speculated that the Quad leaders will discuss cooperation on such issues as infrastructure development in emerging nations, distribution of COVD-19 vaccines, maritime security in the South China Sea, and climate change. The paper added that the schedule of the summit may change if Prime Minister Suga decides not to attend the UN session due to domestic political events such as the dissolution of the Lower House and a general election.
