Saturday’s Okinawa Times front-paged a report saying that the Okinawa police arrested on Friday a U.S. Air Force employee on charges of attempted forcible intercourse. The suspect allegedly grabbed a Japanese woman from behind and pushed her down in an attempt to sexually assault her at around 5:50 a.m. on April 17 in central Okinawa. The suspect left the scene after the woman resisted fiercely. The woman reportedly sustained no injuries. The suspect has reportedly admitted the charges. The police had previously arrested the suspect when he pushed away an officer during a police raid of his house on July 15. Okinawa Governor Tamaki told reporters on Friday that the incident is very regrettable and that he plans to demand the U.S. military strengthen discipline. Saturday’s Ryukyu Shimpo ran a similar report on an inside page.
