Gov’t drafts plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 46%

With an eye to achieving the goal set by the government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46% from fiscal 2013 levels by fiscal 2030, the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry drafted a global warming countermeasures plan at a joint meeting on Aug. 4. The plan stipulates reduction targets for each sector.

The draft plan sets the following goals: a decrease of 66% from fiscal 2013 levels for the household sector; a 50% drop for the commercial sector; a 38% decrease for the transport sector, and a 37% reduction for the industrial sector. The government will call for public comments as early as late August and aim to have a Cabinet decision made in October.
