Okinawa reports 23 more COVID-19 infections among U.S. military personnel

On Aug. 10, the Okinawa prefectural government confirmed an additional 23 cases of COVID-19 among U.S. military personnel in the prefecture, bringing the total number to 1,723. Of the 23, nine were from Camp Hansen; four from the Makiminato Service Area (Camp Kinser); three each from Kadena and Camp Zukeran; two from Camp Schwab; and one from Camp Courtney. As for the last one, affiliation is still being confirmed.

 

Infections involving base workers are also being reported one after another. The prefecture confirms that a total of eight base workers have been infected from late July through Aug. 8. Of the eight, three were from Camp Zukeran; two from Kadena; and one each from Camp Shields, Camp Schwab, and Camp Hansen.
