Mizuho Financial Group will create a mechanism that enables companies to purchase greenhouse gas emission quotas (carbon credits) managed by the World Bank Group. Companies will be able to increase their greenhouse gas reduction levels by buying emission quotas the World Bank obtained from environment protection projects.
Mizuho will soon conclude a business alliance with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is affiliated with the World Bank Group. The IFC has emission quotas through multiple environment projects, including forest preservation. Japanese companies will be able to participate in the emission quota trading with the IFC by contributing hundreds of millions of yen per company. (Abridged)
