The Okinawa Defense Bureau announced it will re-submit to Okinawa Prefecture its plan to transplant coral (about 35,000 colonies) different from the coral being transplanted at the moment for the new base construction project at Henoko. The coral live in waters with a soft seabed that is subject to planned  reclamation work. The announcement was made at an Aug. 10 meeting of the “environmental monitoring committee,” an expert committee. The defense bureau plans to start construction of the N2 partition embankment upon completion of the current transplantation work. There are large coral and hood coral, neither of whose transplantation has been approved, near the area planned for construction. The defense bureau, however, concluded that the construction would not create a problem based on its prediction of turbidity. (Abridged)
