Over 60 pct prefer Paralympics without spectators, Jiji poll

Tokyo, Aug. 13 (Jiji Press)–A Jiji Press opinion poll showed on Friday that 68.1 pct of respondents prefer the Tokyo Paralympic Games to be held without spectators amid the coronavirus pandemic.

 

The event is scheduled to take place from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5.

 

According to the poll, conducted for four days through Monday, 20.9 pct wanted the sporting event to be postponed or canceled, 6.7 pct preferred the event with spectators and 4.3 pct said they do not know.

 

Respondents were split over the decision to go ahead with holding of the Tokyo Olympic Games, which ran from July 23 to Sunday, with 38.0 pct saying holding the event was appropriate and 35.5 pct finding it inappropriate.

 

The proportion of respondents who said they cannot say or do not know came to 26.5 pct.

 

The survey covered 2,000 people aged 18 or older across the country. Valid replies came from 64.0 pct.
