Saturday’s Ryukyu Shimpo and Okinawa Times wrote that the III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa posted on its Japanese-language Twitter account on Friday an image of a CH-53E helicopter along with a message wishing people “safe and happy holidays.” The message and the image were posted at around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, after parts fell off a Futenma-based MV22 Osprey on Thursday. The papers wrote that people who saw the tweet reacted sharply by saying that posting a message including the word “safe” after the incident and an image of a CH-53E helicopter, the same type of helicopter that crashed on the campus of Okinawa International University on July 13 in 2004, was inappropriate.
