The Ministry of Defense (MOD) will transport surface-to-ship missiles and other weaponry to the Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) Camp Miyakojima (Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture) as early as Aug. 28, sources informed Asahi Shimbun. Miyakojima City is requesting the delivery be postponed in light of the state of emergency declared over the COVID-19 situation.

Camp Miyakojima was established in March 2019. In April 2019, weaponry was removed from the island because the explanation given to local residents  was insufficient. Some weaponry was brought to the Camp in June this year, and according to sources, full-fledged delivery of weaponry, including surface-to-ship and surface-to-air missiles, will start from Aug. 28.
