Lower House member Ishizaki Toru (elected from Hokuriku-Shinetsu proportional representation district) and five other lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties expressed their intention to participate in a seaborne inspection tour to the Senkaku Islands organized by the Congressional National Security Research Group (chair: former defense minister Kyuma Fumio), the Sankei learned from the group on Aug. 24. Arrangements are being made to conduct the tour as early as October.
The group has already announced a plan to shoot images of the area surrounding the Senkakus from the sky using drones and distribute them via the internet . The plan also includes shooting images of the area surrounding the Senkakus from the sea. When the group invited lawmakers to accompany the camera crew, six Diet members said they wished to join and four said they were “still considering.” (Abridged)
