On Aug. 27, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the City of Los Angeles agreed to accelerate intercity exchange by sharing experiences of hosting the Olympics. Tokyo will share its environmental measures with Los Angeles, which will host the Olympics in 2028. To deepen their ties, the two cities will closely cooperate in taking climate change countermeasures.

Tokyo Gov. Koike Yuriko signed an agreement with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. The two metropolises will share their expertise in promoting gender equality and overcoming natural disasters and other crises. They will also consider ways to cooperate in a bid to mutually develop Tokyo Bay and Los Angeles Harbor.

During the signing ceremony, Koike said, “I am confident the bond between our two cities will grow stronger.” Garcetti, who attended the ceremony online, said, “I’m grateful for Tokyo’s serving as a model of an (Olympics) host city.”
