On Aug. 27, Tokyo Gov. Koike Yuriko said that consideration for hosting a casino-featuring integrated resort (IR) has been put on hold. She underscored that she has been giving priority to anti-COVID-19 measures, saying, “We are currently determining which measures need to be implemented as quickly as possible and which measures are permanent and can be carried out with fewer staff members.”

Regarding inviting an IR, Koike said: “There are both merits and demerits. We will conduct comprehensive deliberation.” When asked during a press conference held that day about what she thinks about an IR now, she said, “There is basically no change (from my past opinion).”
