On Aug. 30, the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Naha) announced that four China Coast Guard vessels entered Japan’s territorial waters near the Senkaku Islands (Ishigaki, Okinawa Prefecture) from around 2:40 a.m.
Five Japanese fishing boats were sailing in the territorial waters at the time. The four Chinese vessels left the territorial waters at around 12:20 p.m. and entered the contiguous zone as if following the fishing boats.
It was the third consecutive day and the 34th day this year that the Chinese vessels intruded into the Japanese territorial waters near the Senkakus. According to the 11th JCG headquarters, three Chinese vessels separately sailed in the contiguous zone off the Senkakus, making this the 22nd consecutive day that Chinese vessels were spotted in the area.
