According to a Ryukyu Shimpo front-page story, the Defense Ministry is considering establishing a missile unit headquarters on a GSDF camp in Uruma, Okinawa, in FY2022. The headquarters will command and control four component units based on the islands of Amami, Miyako, and Ishigaki and in the city of Uruma.

The daily separately wrote that the ministry has requested in FY2022 some $1 billion for the establishment on Ishigaki Island of a 570-strong GSDF camp charged with defending the Nansei Islands from Chinese aggression. Several units will be deployed there, including a surface-to-air missile unit and a ground-to-ship missile unit.
