Former Secretary-General of the National Security Secretariat Kitamura Shigeru has released a new book. Titled “Joho to kokka [Information and the nation],” the book points out the importance of economic security policy during this era of confrontation between the U.S. and China. It also calls for strengthening and expanding Japan’s intelligence agencies, including raising the status of the Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office to that of “agency.” It is Kitamura’s first book published after his retirement from the country’s top security post in July.

Currently, Kitamura is representative of Kitamura Economic Security.
