The Saturday evening edition of Asahi reported that a group of researchers at the National Center for Child Health and Development (NCCHD) and National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) announced on Friday the results of a study of 1,038 pediatric patients who were hospitalized nationwide after testing positive for COVID-19 from January 2020 to February 2021. According to the results, 29.7% of them were asymptomatic, and among the 730 people who had symptoms, only 15 required oxygen treatment and none of them died. The paper said some children had to be hospitalized even though they did not require treatment because all of their family members were hospitalized. Saturday’s Yomiuri carried a similar report, saying that the survey does not account for the impact of the Delta variant.
