On Sept. 13, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) newly designated a 3,200-hectare area located off the coast of Happo Town and Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture as a district for the promotion of the construction of offshore wind power generation facilities. The government will start soon to solicit operators, who, if selected, would possess the area for 30 years. This is the fifth area designated by the government for offshore wind power promotion, following the designation of areas off Nagasaki and Chiba Prefectures.
