According to Sankei, the White House notified the Senate on Monday of President Biden’s nomination of former Chief of Staff for President Obama Rahm Emanuel as his envoy to Japan, saying that the veteran Democratic politician will assume the post pending Senate confirmation. Noting that progressives in the Democratic Party are strongly opposed to Emanuel’s nomination on account of his handling of a police scandal when he was Chicago mayor, the daily said attention will be focused on whether Senators Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and other “left-leaning” Democrats will endorse the nominee.
