According to the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Naha), four China Coast Guard vessels entered Japan’s territorial waters off the Senkaku islands and Minamikojima Island (Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture) from around 10:00 a.m. to 10:17 a.m. on Sept. 19.
One of the vessels appeared to be armed with a cannon. The Japan Coast Guard patrol told the Chinese vessels to leave the Japanese territorial waters. All four vessels left the territorial waters by 11:44 a.m.
The Japanese government lodged a protest over the intrusion with the Chinese government through diplomatic channels on the same day.
