Tokyo, Sept. 28 (Jiji Press)–Tokyo logged a net population outflow for the fourth straight month in August, the internal affairs ministry said Tuesday.

The net outflow came apparently because the Japanese capital was under the government’s COVID-19 state of emergency.

The number of people who moved into Tokyo fell 2.9 pct from a year earlier to 26,727, while those who moved out dropped 6.1 pct to 30,090, resulting in a net outflow of 3,363 people.

The ministry said the number of people who moved into Tokyo and neighboring Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures exceeded those moving out by 800, marking the first net inflow in two months.
