On Oct. 2, the Okinawa Police Station arrested on the spot a 22-year-old U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). The Marine reportedly acknowledged the facts overall during the investigation. Alcohol about twice the legal limit was detected on his breath.
The suspicion is that the Marine was driving a subcompact car under the influence of alcohol at around 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 2., on a municipal road in Okinawa City, Goya 2-chome. The incident came to light when a patrolling police officer noticed a car travelling in the wrong direction on the road, and requested the car to stop. (Personal name has been redacted.)
