Former NPA chief Kuryu tapped as deputy chief cabinet secretary

Liberal Democratic Party President Kishida Fumio unofficially deiced to appoint former National Police Agency Commissioner General Kuryu Shunichi as deputy chief cabinet secretary for administrative affairs in the cabinet that he will launch on Oct. 4. The incumbent Sugita Kazuhiro will retire.

 

During his years at the NPA, Kuryu worked as head of the criminal affairs bureau and commissioner general’s secretariat. He served as NPA head for two years from 2018. (Abridged)
