On Oct. 3, the Urasoe Police Station arrested on the spot a 23-year-old U.S. Marine Corps corporal on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol), alleging that he was driving a standard-sized automobile while under the influence of alcohol. The Marine reportedly denies the charge, saying he “did not drive under the influence of alcohol.” Alcohol about twice the legal limit was detected on his breath.

The suspicion is that the Marine was driving a car under the influence of alcohol at around 2:10 a.m. on Oct  3 on a harbor road at Irijima 2-chome. The incident was revealed when a police car pursued a car that failed to comply with a police officer’s request to stop at a checkpoint. (Personal name has been redacted.)
