The Tokyo Metropolitan Police dropped charges on Oct. 1 against a Chinese man in his 30s who was charged with illegally generating and providing private electromagnetic records in a cyberattack case against Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The police had sent papers to prosecutors on the case. No reason was given for the charges being dropped, and the man has already left Japan.

According to the police, the man obtained a rental server ID by contracting with a Japanese company under a false name and address and sold the ID to a Chinese hacker group between 2016 and 2017. The cyberattack against JAXA was executed using that particular server.
