The two major Okinawa papers wrote that local prosecutors on Wednesday sought a prison sentence of five and a half years for an employee at MCAS Futenma who was charged with attempted sexual assault and theft, noting that a ruling will be issued on Oct. 18. The defendant has pleaded guilty to the two counts. The prosecutors reportedly stressed that the 26-year-old worker should be jailed since he is “prone to recidivism” as he assaulted a local woman on April 17 while he was under criminal investigation for a case in which he allegedly snatched the purse of a separate woman in August last year. The defense counsel called for a suspended sentence, saying that the client is deeply remorseful.
