Kishida sends offering to Yasukuni

All national papers reported today that Prime Minister Kishida on Sunday sent a ritual masakaki potted plant to Yasukuni Shrine, saying that he thus chose not to visit the war memorial on the occasion of the two-day autumn festival that began yesterday. The papers added that former PM Suga paid homage there yesterday, noting that he had refrained from doing so for the 10 years since he became chief cabinet secretary under the Abe administration in 2012. According to Sankei, the ROK Foreign Ministry issued a comment expressing “profound disappointment and regret” at Kishida’s and Suga’s moves.
