Around 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 21, a passenger car driven by a 53-year-old male civilian worker affiliated with the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa hit an eight-year-old girl in the second grade of elementary school on a municipal road in Hiyagon 4-chome in Okinawa City. Both the civilian worker and the girl are residents of the city. The girl was severely injured after being violently struck in the chest. She was conscious but sent to a hospital in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island.
According to the Okinawa Police, the car was traveling southward on National Route 329 and hit the girl on a city road after taking a left turn at the intersection.
