On Oct. 23, the Naha Police Station arrested on the spot a 27-year-old U.S. Air Force staff sergeant affiliated with Kadena Air Base on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a standard-sized vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. According to the police station, the airman has admitted to the charge.
The charge is that he drove in Naha City’s Kumoji 2-chome area at around 5:18 a.m. on Oct. 23 while intoxicated with a level of alcohol about twice the legal limit, which is 0.15mg per liter of breath. A police officer on patrol saw the vehicle traveling without its headlights on. During questioning, the officer found the driver to be drunk. (Personal name has been redacted.)
